I recently started an art class as my one class for the spring semester. None of the other culinary arts classes had openings, so I opted to take the one elective i needed. Hoping to get in more work at my job, since I need the money.
I have to admit, I'm glad I'm taking this class. In all honesty i'm a bit nervous. I haven't actually done anything significantly artistic in like... 8 or ten years. So I'm basically starting from square one. I did get to draw a bit in our first class. We made use of graphite, like actual sticks of it, and drew. I friggen love pencils, and graphite was interesting to be drawing with. The subject we all had was this little arrangement in the middle of the class. We had 3 skulls, one in a basket, one on a box, and one on a different side, with a red satin sheet, arranged in a circular sort of display. We only had an hour to draw. I admit I was fixated on the skull in the basket when I sat down in that classroom. If i wasn't listening to the teacher, I was studying that skull in the basket. The skull came out decently, but I didn't get to complete the basket.
Meanwhile two seats over... someone completely drew the entire setup, shaded it, and had crisp lines. *eye twitch*
Oh well. I just need to get all the supplies that I need for next week's class, and then do the homework before then. And an interesting thing I noticed is that our sketchbook and in-class work constitutes 80% of our grade. Which means that I'm going to need to start drawing outside of class. THAT will be interesting.
